Dance Pa Gellu


Traditional arts, particularly the art of dance, often shown when the Toraja people hold traditional ceremonies. Toraja dance to show their feelings. And types of dances chosen course adapted to the meaning behind the dance.

For example, in the funeral, they dance as an expression of grief as  well as to honor and encourage the spirits of the deceased are believed to be traveling to the hereafter.

One type of dance that is performed to express joy is Pa'Gellu '.This dance is usually performed by teens. They danced to the rhythm of the drum beat played four teenage sons. The dancers are called by this ma'toding dressed and accessories made from gold and silver, like gold dagger (sarapang Bulawan), kandaure, sa'pi 'Ulu', tarrung rope, and others.

The dance symbolizes the welcoming ceremony Pa'Gellu actually against the patriots or heroes who returned from the war with a victory. But now, this dance has been frequently performed in other excitement ceremonies, such as weddings, baby shower in the harvest season, or when welcoming guests of honor.

When the dance is danced, the audience can get to the dancers for  tucking money in the decoration applied at the head of the dancers.
